About Global Health Exchanges

About Global Health Exchanges

Global Health Exchanges (GHX) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working in Alaska and in low-resource areas around the world, such as Nicaragua. We are an interdisciplinary team that strives to eliminate barriers to health by implementing evidence-based, scientifically demonstrated interventions while partnering with communities to develop novel, replicable, scalable solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing issues.

Mission:

We partner with communities to build a healthier world through collaboration, education, innovation, and service.

Philosophy:

We believe in the power of community. Sustainable change can only be realized when the community is engaged, inspired, and supported.

“Volunteering your time and expertise shouldn’t be something only the
most financially stable can offer.”

Our Projects:

Community Health Workers

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are a healthy community’s foundation and heartbeat. We work to partner CHWs in the United States with CHWs in other parts of the world to expand both group’s clinical skill sets, promote solidarity, and empower humanity.

Changing the Face of Healthcare

One critical step towards health equity is changing the face of healthcare. Global Health Exchanges believes in supporting any individual called to the healthcare profession, be it a pharmacist, physician, nurse, lactation consultant, therapist, dentist, hygienist, etc. We work to ease the journey toward professional careers by connecting individuals with mentors and helping with initial financial barriers such as application fees or exams.

Global Health Intensives

Global Health Intensives offer college-age students an opportunity to study healthcare systems different from their own while developing skills in intercultural collaboration, organizational management, leadership, and public health.

Global Health Fairs

Global Health Fairs offer professionals in multiple disciplines an opportunity to both share and expand their skills and talents with vulnerable communities.

Lactation Care Access

Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful public health tools we have available, and yet quality lactation care is expensive and not accessible to all mothers. We want to change that. All mothers deserve excellent care. By providing vouchers for lactation care to local providers, we can ensure equitable access to care and reduce disparities in health outcomes.

Medical Supplies

Healthcare providers need dependable access to quality medical equipment, supplies, and medications. We help clinics and health fairs in resource-poor areas of the United States as well as globally get the supplies they need.

Global Health Exchange Scholarships

Volunteering your time and expertise shouldn’t be something only the most financially stable can offer. Travel is expensive, but that should never be a barrier to sharing your talent and compassion. We fund scholarships to individuals wanting to volunteer on global health trips. Payment is made directly to the supporting organization.
